Asmae Ourkiya, a researcher in ecofeminism and environmental justice at the University of Limerick, who was not involved in the study, noted that "masculine identities became heavily associated with fossil fuel extraction and consumption… and resistance to sustainable diets." This observation suggests that addressing climate change may require confronting deeply ingrained social norms.

Carlsson-Kanyama acknowledged that discussing these differences can be uncomfortable, as people may feel defensive about their lifestyles. However, she argued that avoiding the topic would be a missed opportunity for policymakers seeking effective interventions. The study's findings offer a concrete example of how demographic insights can inform more targeted climate action.
